The Florida Monarch Research and Educational Project which began in 2019 is a non profit organized to conduct research on the Florida Monarchs and to explore the reasons for the decline of the resident population. Is it due to loss of habitat, herbicides, pesticides, natural disasters or is it the OE spore?
Our Florida resident participants assist the research by testing and tagging our monarchs either raised or wild. This helps us to collect data statewide.
It is our belief the monarch has adapted to the spore over the decades of consuming the more toxic cardenolides found in the tropical milkweed.
The Project also provides education to schools, communities and to the general public on how to provide safe, chemical free habitats that will provide healthy and necessary larval and butterfly plants.
We need participants from all over the state. You do not need to be a year round resident. Our monarchs here in Florida, south of Tampa do not migrate. You do not even need to be raising monarchs to participate. There is something for everyone to do to assist in data collection.
We provide ALL materials needed to collect data for the research including postage at no cost to you.
